Sugar Skull Card Reprised!

Did you know that there are several sugar skull stamps both digital and unmounted available in the Queen Kat Designs store?  This card was created using the Day of the Dead Girl digital stamp.  I love the was this stamp colors up.  I used Sakura gel pens which gave a really neat "slick" look to this image.  Don't you love the head band, the skulls in her hair and the bird in her hair??  This is a larger card 5 inches by 7 inches made on dark blue card stock.  The image was printed on heavy watercolor paper and colored.  I inked the edges with Prima Dark Bark chalk ink and added the "Hi" sentiment which I outlined with a gel pen.  This card could easily turn in to a framed piece of art by the recipient.  What a great way to just brighten someone's day.  If you love the look of skulls and especially the hispanic sugar skulls, be sure to check out the variety of stamps available in the store!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Bryn & Tup "Happy" Card!

Today I am sharing a Steampunk themed card using "Bryn & Tup" from Maigan Lynn - available at the QKD Store!

Image has been coloured with Copic Markers, background is a digital paper and these have both had the edges roughed up with a distressing tool.

I coloured some gear/cog die cuts with various coloured inks, and glued them down the side of the card. I think the little steampunk style charm finishes it off!
The little "Happy" die cut was also coloured with various inks and stuck to the bottom to fill the gap.

I like the effect of black base cards and for mounting the main image - I tend to use black a lot these days - always has a great effect.

Wishing everyone a great week!

And make sure you keep checking in here each day for more amazing DT creations with Queen Kat Designs!

Ooh La La

Happy Wednesday everyone. Janie here with you today to share one of my favorite images by Terrell Dorfeo. Today I am sharing Naughty Nurse and Boy is she naughty :).

I chose to have her with jet black hair and I think it made the image pop more. I used my Carta Bella Paris Girl Paper for this card and I also doodled with a white gel pen I think this card turned out stunning.

When I was creating this card the song that kept running through my head was Britney Spears Ooh La La so hence the name of the card and the paper I chose.

Thanks for letting me share her with you today and I hope you have an awesome week
Hugs....................................................................................
Janie

Here is the lyrics for the song that inspired this piece enjoy....

You don't have to look like a movie star
Ooh I think you're good just the way you are
Tell me if you could would you up and run away with me?

You don't have to roll like a millionaire
Baby I would go with you anywhere
We don't need no gold, we'll be shining anyway, we'll see

You know can nobody get down like us
We don't f-ck 'till we get enough
C'mon, turn it up 'till the speakers pop
Break it down, show me what you've got

Ooh my my baby don't be shy
I see that spark flashing in your eye
My heart beats fast 'cause I want it all
So baby come with me and be my ooh la la

Take my hand, we can go all night
And spin me round just the way I like
It feels so good, I don't wanna stop
So baby come with me and be my ooh la la

You don't have to wear no designer clothes
Just as long as we're dancing on the floor
Fingers in my hair and I'm letting go tonight, so free

You know can nobody get down like us
We don't f-ck 'till we get enough
C'mon, turn it up 'till the speakers pop
Break it down, show me what you've got

Ooh my my baby don't be shy
I see that spark flashing in your eye
My heart beats fast 'cause I want it all
So baby come with me and be my ooh la la

Take my hand, we can go all night
And spin me round just the way I like
It feels so good, I don't wanna stop
So baby come with me and be my ooh la la

[Break]

Ooh my my baby don't be shy
I see that spark flashing in your eye

Ooh my my baby don't be shy
I see that spark flashing in your eye
My heart beats fast 'cause I want it all
So baby come with me and be my ooh la la

Take my hand, we can go all night
And spin me round just the way I like
It feels so good, I don't wanna stop
So baby come with me and be my ooh la la

I Love Silhouette Images

Do you know why I love QKD silhouette images?  Because when I have some absolutely gorgeous patterned paper that is way too busy to showcase a stamped image, you can still use it to make a card.  All you need is a stamped silhouette image in a coordinating color to make it pop on the card front.

Because I'm piling up a few cards for operation Write Home, I'm leaving this one CAS, but if I weren't, I could still use some inking and jewels and ribbon without my image getting lost in the scene.

I did use the same image and stamped the inside again, in red this time.  Just to bring the theme inside the card as well.

I have three cards finished for the Troops, but will probably make a few more before sending out to my contact.  If you're interested in joining this worthwhile cause, check out www.operationwritehome.org for specifics.

Enabling Alert!!  The QKD Store has been revamped and to celebrate its makeover, there are loads of sales going on--no coupon or discount code needed!!  Choose your favorites that you've been craving to buy, or pick a new image the just now catches your eye.  Either way, it's the perfect time to add on to your QKD collection!

And remember, have fun in your crafting!!

Grandma's Quilt Altered Canvas and Beyond!

Todays post is a canvas that started out as a 4 inch x 4 inch square and morphed into something a bit larger!

I love the idea of art on small canvases. The only thing I had in mind with this piece when I started was a quilt square. I painted the canvas with Ocean Reef Blue Acrylic Paint and let it dry. I added Gesso over the blue paint to give a "white washed" or soft fabric look. I created the "fabric" hexagons using a Fiskar Hexagon punch and a single piece of Crate Paper Little Bo Peep Adelaide paper. I inked the edges of the hexagons with Prima Dark Bark Chalk Ink. They were then adhered to the canvas in the "quilt block" pattern. The stitching was added with a Sakura Gel Pen. Then the fun began!

What to add to the "quilt block collage"? I found some lace, tulle, vintage buttons on a card (41 cents - can you believe it), a Raggedy Anne doll, and a super cute digital stamp from Queen Kat called "four eyed flower", which I colored with the Sakura Gel Pens. I also tossed in a vintage stamp and a Craft Bingo card. Add some adhesive and you get a bigger than 4 x 4 inch canvas with a little vintage personality. You can click on the links in this paragraph and be instantly transported to the store to get the super cute digital stamp!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Wonderful Nixie Girl

Today I am sharing a card using a great Nora Blansett digi available from Queen Kat Designs - Nixie Girl - She really is so beautiful & peaceful - I think that's why I love this image so much - makes me feel peaceful & calm - LOL!

Image is coloured with Copic Markers and fussy cut - I love to fussy cut images - I'm not keen on white space which is probably why I struggle with CAS style cards!! I love the soft greens & earthy tones of the patterned paper & little flags. I added some rubs ons to the cream coloured card strip and to finish off some matching fibre & ribbon & little key charm at the spine!

I hope you are all having a great week and I shall be back next week to share another creation with you!

A Fairy Good Day To You

My card today features "Forest Night" by Terra Bidlespacher.

After coloring my image, I tore it and inked the edges with Tim Holtz Vintage Photo distress ink. After framing it with patterned paper, I found a distressed tag in my stash of leftover supplies and used it to open up the frame, also using some torn pink card stock and coordinating striped patterned paper.

The stripes looked too intense, so I toned it down with some webbing, and then I "had my way" with embellishments. I finished off my card by inking one edge with gold pigment ink, then rubbing in some Aztec Gold Pearl Ex pigments.

I love the fairies that Terra creates, like this one, don't you? Check them all out at the QKD Shop!!  And for inspiration, check out QKD on Facebook:

Hope you are feeling the sun now.  Have a summer day!

Project materials:  Cardstock (Bazzill, Neenah); Stamps (Queen Kat); Diecuts (Spellbinders Nestabilities); Ink (Memento, Colorbox Chalk); Mesh (Hobby Lobby); Lace (Istanbul, Turkiye); Adhesives (Pop Dots, Glue All, Ribbon Glue); Color (Copic Markers);

You're the Best Card

Just stopping by to show a fun digital stamp called Angels Wings.

To color this beautiful lady, I printed the digital stamp on watercolor paper to add some texture.
I used my trusty Crayola Colored pencils to color the entire image.  Then came the fun of adding glitter with glitter glue.  (I used three colors; two on the clouds and one on the wings).  One reason I love digital stamps, is you can add your sentiment digitally, before printing!  In this case I used a Dakota Handwriting font to add the sentiment.  I printed it in light grey and then wrote over it using a gel pen.  Super easy!  You could easily just use the color of your choice when printing.

Have a fabulous weekend!  Thanks for stopping by!

I'd Like to be Under the Sea....

June 13th 2013

Hi Everyone
I'm Sharon and this is my first post as a new member of the QKD Design Team.
I live "Down Under" in Australia and I'm normally a day ahead of everyone else and awake when everyone else is asleep LOL!
I've been crafting and card making for a very long time - I love all sorts of crafts and although I am predominantly a card maker I love to make Journal Pages, Altered Art, ATC's, Fabric Creations & whatever else takes my fancy at the time I am creating!

I look forward to sharing my QKD Creations with you!

Today I am sharing a new Journal Page I have created with one of Maigan Lynn's wonderful digi designs "Mad Fancy". This gorgeous mermaid has been coloured with Copic Markers (my favourite colouring medium). The Journal Page has been sprayed with 3 shades of green "Fireworks" Ink Sprays & sponged with co-ordinating inks. I also used a Dylusions stencil with Turquoise paint & added some sparkly gems, muslin fabric, mesh sticky stuff and stamped wording from The Beatles Octopus's Garden Song!

I hope I have provided you with some inspiration for the day.
I will be back next week with another creation to share!

Say Goodbye to Spring and Hello to Summer

Well, today was a good day to explore mixed media showcasing a QKD set of digi images from Queen Kat herself!  The set is called Patchwork Spring and is available in the QKD Shoppe!
I used a manila folder cut to 6x6 for my base, adding a piece of patterned paper.   Next I Mod Podged a square of a tie-dye patterned designer napkin, adding some ink to distress it, as well as  the "shadow" cut of a peacock.
After printing the digi set on several pieces of patterned paper, I paper-pieced each flower, adhered it to my "garden" and added stems and leaves.  Same with the butterfly and dragonfly!
I added to the over-all effect with black and white gel pens, pulling out the "bones" of each image, and the highlighting them.  I wish you could touch my card--it certainly has a different "feel" to it!
Have you discovered a technique you want to try?  Did you "pin" something you want to explore?  Now's the time to "get 'er done", and a QKD digi like this set would be a perfect starting point for you!!
Happy crafting!

My Best Friend

Here's one of my favorites in the Queen Kat store, it's a Creepie Cutie from artist Kristie Silva.  This image is called Midnight Dreary.  I totally love her whole stamp line.  Those little skull barrettes and skull on her tshirt...perfect with the skull border that I added.

Hope you are having a great time now that Summer is in full swing.  The schools just ended here in TX, as most kids went to school through last week.  I imagine it will be a much different week now that all the kids are off. Hope you all get some Summertime Stamping done.

Project Materials:  Cardstock (Bazzill, Neenah, DCWV); Stamp (Queen Kat); Ink (Memento);  Punch (Martha Stewart); Saying (Cosmo Crickett); Buttons (American Traditionals);  Twine (Doodlebug);  DieCut (Nellie Snellen); Adhesives (Pop dots, Glue all, Glue dots);

Introducing Myself and Canal Avenue Digital Stamp

Happy Saturday!  Allow me to take a moment to introduce myself.  My name is Victoria Warren-Mears and I am one of the new additions to the Queen Kat Design team.  Some of you may know me as VAWM on scrapbook.com.  I have been paper crafting for a really long time.  My first "scrapbook" was from an Arizona trip in fifth grade.  Things went by the wayside after college, but when my 12 year old was two, I got back into it again.  So here we are 10 years later and I am thrilled to be on the Queen Kat Design team.

I want to show you a quick to make card using Vikki's digital stamp Canal Avenue.  I love the funky little buildings and all the details!

I don't know which of the many Canal Avenue's she had in mind but it reminds me a little of New Orleans.  I colored the stamp using three different products:  Faber-Castell Metallic Colored Eco-Pencils, Crayola (yes, Crayola - I am frugal too) Colored Pencils, and Sakura Glaze Collection pens.

I printed the design at a 4 to a page size on 8 1/2 x 11 card stock, colored the image and then mounted it on dimensional tape on the patterned paper, which is from My Mind's Eye.  For a little fun I stapled the striped strip to the card.  I don't even have a special crafting stapler, I use a standard office swing line stapler!

This stamp is super fun and really reasonably priced!  You can't go wrong!

Have a wonderful week!

Setting a Scene with QKD Stamps

I have been buying up several background stamps for the last year, and today I wanted to show you what you can do with them, besides using one as a standard background for a card or a tag.

For this Tim Holtz inspired tag, I used the following QKD stamps:
Just Batty background and Skulls background, along with the Chinese Temple, Briggitte, and Street Lamp stamps.

The base is covered with book page patterned paper, then distressed it with Tim's inks.  I stamped the Chinese Temple on the left in black ink. I used the Just Batty background stamp on cardstock, ink-distressed it, and tore the inside edge to blend into my scene.  After adhering it, I stamped more bats to give it some height.

The next layer is the Skulls background, which I distressed then used pop dots to give it dimension.  I made the top layer using the street ;amp and Briggitte stamps (she's colored with Copics).

Embellishments include washi tape around the edges, some fun, tiny "dingle balls" trim on the bottom, purple feathers and metal stars, and a cool epoxy pebble.

If I had to use a sentiment on this tag, I think it would be something like:
"Friends don't let friends walk home alone on a street paved with skulls" or some such nonsense! LOL

Anyway, what are your favorite QKD stamp combinations?
