Royal Kat Tuuesday Blog Hop: Inspiration

CUPCAKES!!! Indulge in a little guilty pleasure with us this week.

This week's challenge will be to go online (or your local bakery for the real thing) and find an inspiring cupcake picture. Then create a card or layout or project or whatever using that picture as your inspiration.

Here's a yummy example:

And here's the official blog hop list in case you get lost along the way:

If there's anything I like to indulge in as giving in to my sweet tooth, it's using doilies in my layout. So I definitely knew I wanted a big one as a background.

Then I realized upon looking at last year's Christmas memorabilia, that the cards, gift tags and little drawings of my son are as much a part of the memories as the photos.

So I came up with a way of putting all these precious mementoes in a layout.

The challenge was how to create the pocket for all the stuff I was putting on there. In my ever clumsy way, I always manage to create pockets that are too small for the memorabilia I want to put in my layouts.

I finally stumbled on a solution by using a humble office envelope:

Slap some pretty patterned paper in front and voila, a beautiful pocket:

I used the lovely Peppermint Girl Stamp and Warm Fuzzies Stamp Set.

Royal Kat Tuesday Blog Hop: Color

July reminds us all about the great Red, White and Blue! So for this week, we chose those colors as inspiration.

Of course my Christmas in July wouldn't be complete without a look back on Christmas 2009. These were the "Christmas" decor on top of the refrigerator last year.

The Star Wars toys reminded me of a cassette tape we had when we were kids that had R2-D2 and C-3PO singing Christmas carols. So I figured it was logical to put up our Star Wars toys with the red Christmas tree.

The star cut-out behind the photo is from an unused Christmas card that I didn't use last year. Then I put a festive hat from the Holiday Sweater Stamp Set on R2-D2 in the photo. I then added the gloves also from the Holiday Sweater Stamp Set below all the rub-ons and stickers.

I also had fun with some snowflake die-cuts a good friend gave me. I used it as a mask with stamp ink. And as a finishing touch, added the cardstock backing of the die-cut, plus stamped a snowflake from the Holiday Sweater Stamp Set.

Royal Kat Tuesday Blog Hop: Sketch

We hope you're enjoying taking a stroll down memory lane with us this month as we show off our favorite oldies-but-goodies acrylic stamps from the QKD Store.

Remember, it's your last chance to get these beauties for yourself before they run out! Once they're gone, they're gone.

For this week, we have this wonderful sketch as inspiration:

I'm still enjoying my Christmas in July projects and here's the second card I came up with:

Here I used a snowman from Jonathan Pitcher's wonderful Northern Exposure Stamp Set and used the snowflake from the Holiday Sweater Set Stamp Set to decorate the white space around it.

I had a time with figuring out how to create a folded ribbon effect and poured a ton of plain white glue on the ribbons, but for the life of me, they wouldn't stick. I tried to add Ranger's Glossy Accents to them but by that time, the glue was a sticky mess. Trying to do the best I could, I stuck on some of these red plastic beads as decoration and as "pressing points" to push down the ribbon in place.

After leaving it to dry overnight, I was happy to accidentally come up with a card with stiffened ribbon. Hehe.

Royal Kat Tuesday Blog Hop

We're going down memory lane this month as the Royal Court rocks the vintage, retro, classic and old faves from the Queen Kat Designs Store.

It's the start of summer and we thought we'd also let our beloved Queen Kat take it easy. She's been going through a lot, especially her dad, so it wouldn't hurt to lift her up in your thoughts and prayers. We'd sure appreciate it. We love you, Vicki!

Officially, you're only going to see ONE BLOG HOP per week on the QKD Blog starting this month, so you better not miss it!

We hope you enjoy the gorgeous work our Royal Court has in store for us. This week, we have this beautiful sketch as inspiration:

For me, I was lucky enough to work with two amazing QKD stamp sets this month: the Holiday Sweater Set and Warm Fuzzies Stamp Set.

So while some of my Royal Court sisters are celebrating the 4th of July, I'll be celebrating Christmas in July! *wink*

I also pulled out the lovely Che Gilson's Peppermint Girl Stamp for this card and decided to play dress-up. I added the hat from the Holiday Sweater Set and stamped a snowflake on her paper bag.

Hope you have a fun and creative week and we'll see you next week! =)
