Mrs. Dashwood

Mrs. Dashwood - she was painted for a charity project I took on to support a local pet orphanage. Each of the paintings in the series was one of these folk art cats with either a collaged background or an abstract painted background. Each one was named for a cultural or literary figure. Mrs. Dashwood came from a Jane Austin novel. The background is scrapbooking paper, tissue paper and I think some of my hand made paper. Some of the others also included paper I had marbled for a college project many many years ago.

Girl Friday: Stamping in layouts

Here are two easy ways to integrate stamping into a scrapbook layout.

One easy way to make a layout is to gather all your elements in a certain area of the page. For this page, I put everything a little to the right of the layout. Try to overlap some elements.

Tip: An easy way to incorporate stamping and embellishments on a layout is to gather them all on a tag like I did here.

In order to be able to use so many elements and leave them "floating" (pardon the pun) around the background, I used a basic notebook-designed patterned paper.

Speaking of notebook-lined patterned paper, check out the store HERE. There are a lot of stuff on sale right now, like this cute Adornit! paper here.

Thursday Thoughts

Thinking green today -- might be because I just had to make green rice krispy treats (well, they tasted good but mmmm, they were a little off putting because of the color!)

So, with the thoughts of green, I am tending to think more to St. Patrick's Day and the Luck of the Irish!!! And QKD has some great stamps for St. Patrick's Day!!!

How about the Irish Angel by Sue Miller (love her work!)

or the Kiss Me I'm Irish Stamp Set

and don't forget the Celtic Love Stamp Set

No matter what set you choose, getting ready for St. Patty's Day is easy!

Girl Friday Focus: Alley Cat as Asian pirate

When I first saw the lovely Alley Cat Stamp, my first thought was: pirate.

I got my stash of Asian pretty paper and made her into an Asian pirate easily.

Admittedly, I'm not much of a cardmaker. Since I'm starting with basics, I usually grab my white cardstock as a base, either for my stamp image or my card.

Since I was going for a pirate feel, I went with a black and white cardstock base. And I didn't even have to cut the Asian decorative paper because they are part of my stash of scraps.

Hope you have a treasure-filled day! Till next time!

*hugs*

Ash Evans Has Arrived!!!

Today I have the esteemed pleasure of introducing you to one of my new friends and artists... Ash Evans! All I can do is sing her praise! She's a blessing to work with and a great gal overall. So, please meet my friend, Ash..

"Ash Evans is the painter of things with horns fur and wings and a self proclaimed Unicorn Queen. She holds court just outside Baltimore, Maryland USA. Describing herself as a professional creature artist, Ash has her style rooted in the realm of fantasy. She cobbles creatures together with many different mediums including: Digital, acrylic, watercolor, pencil, and oils. Most days you can find her in her studio spattered with paint and muttering to herself. She is easily distracted by shiny objects, enjoys reading and horseback riding."

Ash's motto is: "I want to make the world a more magical place one unicorn at a time".

Her stamps will be in the store tonight at 7pm PST. We are having a release party with giveaways tonight at that time on our Facebook Fan page. Please join us!

Using UTEE to create a pin with the "Trinity" Stamp -- video tutorial

You are all going to love this project!

Before I start this post, I want to state clearly that this project is not for children. Use reasonable caution when handling hot products to avoid injury. Follow manufacturer's directions and above all, don't forget to have a great time creating!

The pin backs where purchased at my local craft store. The Score Tape is available from Score Pal.
Foil tape and red liner tape also work well.

The beautiful images at Queen's ink lend themselves very well to using many techniques and using them as jewelry art is no different. Unlike the stamping into UTEE this project is much sturdier and can be worn as a pin. I would seal the piece completely with crystal lacquer if you plan to use it as a charm or purse accessory.

Purchase the stamp at Queen Kat's store. Trinity is a very pretty detailed stamp and is fun to color. I hope you will try this technique and enjoy some shopping at Queen Kat.
If you have any questions, comments or kind feedback, please contact me via email at: Ms.Rhetta@gmail.com.

Stamp Happy, be a blessing!

Stamping into UTEE -- a video tutorial using Trinity

I bet you're asking, well what can I do with the image?  That is a great question.  She can be adhered to just about anything.  I have put the one you see above on a mini album I hope to finish up in a few days and will try to shoot a video for you guys of the finished product.   I used E6000 adhesive to attach her to the front cover of my book, I kept it in place using ordinary clothes pins.

She can also be worn, when you see the step when I am trimming up the UTEE you can punch a hole in the material while it is still warm and put on a necklace, or place a pin back on it and wear it as an over sized pin.  She will not be good on anything that is going to be "banged" around.  This material is embossing enamel and it will crack, shatter and break.  So, use reasonable caution when working with this material.

The actual time of the stamp sitting in the UTEE before I trimmed it was about 8 minutes, not 20, I should have corrected this when I started filming but failed to do so.  My editing skills are coming along, I've managed to get an introduction on the video with my blog address and the address of one of the on-line groups I belong too.

I really am not good with an exact-o knife, but once the video was shot, I gave it a try.  The UTEE was very much completely cooled down and thick.  I used even pressure on a good quality cutting mat and trimmed out the edges.

The Image is colored with copic markers.  You can also make it shinny by using colored glossy accents or other medium.  It does not need to be sealed, but if you prefer a glossier look, spray it with a glossy acrylic spray paint.

Please email me at Ms.Rhetta@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Stamp Happy and be a blessing!

Dragon Sweets

I seem to be painting a lot of cupcakes these days. I have chosen to share this one with you all, because it is how I am feeling right now. We spent Saturday making pink iced cupcakes for my daughter's birthday party today. And I am tired. She got to help decorate them. She manned the sprinkles much better than I did the icing.
Dragon Sweets was created for a Pay It Forward Project that I did on my facebook fanpage last month.

Super Saturday

Hello again everyone...Sarah here.
Today I'd like to share with you a Valentine card
that I made for my daughter using the
"My Furry Valentine" stamp from the
Ash Evans Collection. On this card, I wanted
to tie the color of the stamp in with the title
so I stamped the image with a dark brown ink
and then just highlighted the edges of the image
with my Copic BV0000 Pale Thistle.

Make sure you take a look through the QKD Store

to find this adorably sweet "My Furry Valentine"
stamp that is 25% off along with all of the rubber
stamps and 80% off of all remaining acrylic stamps!!

Have a wonderful weekend and Happy Valentine's Day!

Girl Friday: Easy Valentine's Day project

I had these grand plans for Valentine's Day projects, but kept procrastinating on them. What actually motivated me to go ahead with this one is that my husband and son kept threatening to eat the chocolates ahead of time!

So their Valentine's Day gift ended up being made a few days earlier.

This was super easy to make, I promise. Grab a beer bottle or any empty glass container, wash thoroughly. (I washed this several times.) Fill up with m&m's or your choice of chocolates. Measure and wrap a long piece of patterned paper to go around the middle part of the bottle. (I layered two strips.)

I used double-tape to tape the ends together. But you can use your choice of adhesive.

Stamp and color image on white cardstock. Attach the centerpiece with a cardstock mat. I used this lovely stamp here: Whale Hug Rubber Stamp.

Tie ribbon, apply rub-ons. Simple, right?

Hope you and your loved ones all have a wonderful Valentine's Day!

*hugs*

Welcome Meadow Pixie Arts!

Today is a special day!! We are welcoming Terrell Dorfeo to our team. She is such a lovely friend of mine. I can't wait for you to see her work! We have a release party tonight at 7pm PST on the QKD Facebook Fan Page. I hope you will join us. We will reveal all of her new releases then and do some giveaways too!

Lets meet Terrell...

Hello, my name is Terrell (pronounced like "Carol") Dorfeo (Door-Fey-o) and I am from Pittsburgh. My art that you see here and all over the web are more or less my "doodles". I am a licensed artist and also do freelance work. I see life from a cartoonist's point of view and it comes out that way in my designs! The art just forms as it wishes as soon as I put pen to the paper which is all the time and I have been lucky to have had artworks in a few shows , magazines and books. Where it goes from here we will have to see! ;)I attended The Art Institute of Pittsburgh for Media Arts and Animation which is currently on hold at this time. I haven't decided whether or not to continue the study--the art I do makes me more of a 2D animation (cartoonist) artist/illustrator than a 3D artist.

My art has been shown in the "Manchester Craftsman's Guild", "The Art Smith Gallery; Several pieces of my mermaid collection were shown at the Red Dot Fair in Miami December 2-6 of 2009 in the Multi-Media Slide Show and my name and website were part of an art display in "Litany" for the Three Rivers Arts Festival in 2010 that was shown all over the area of the show. I hope that you will enjoy what I do and consider becoming a fan of my work!

I truly love watching how others interpret my work in card making, tags, coloring pages and other crafts. In case you were wondering, I am 40 years old and am married to my sweetheart Tony. We are slowly going insane with two children, a nutty dog and an obnoxious cockateil.

Rubber Ducky

Rubber Ducky was created for the ebsq Rubber Ducky online exhibit. And of course I had to go with one of my whimsical fantasy creatures. My husband insisted that a fairy cat would not like a bubble bath, and I already did a mercat in the bath. So we have dragon. I really like his little rosy cheeks and all those bubbles.

Super Saturday

Hello everyone! My name is Sarah Mullanix, and I'm
a new designer here at QKD. Today is my first post and
I'd love to share a card with you that I created using
the cutest pixie stamp designed by Terrell Dorfeo with
Meado Pixie Arts. This little pixie is just absolutely
adorable with her delicate wings and two little kitty
cats that sit comfortably in her hands. After I colored
her in with my Copics, I then accented the stamp with
earthtones such as blues, greens, and browns, just perfect
for a little pixie that I always invision fluttering around
the woods hopping from tree branch to tree branch.

You can find this stamp "Kitty Cat Fairy"

in the QKD Store at 20% off along with all of the other
rubber stamps and acrylic stamps are 80% off, but hurry
because today is the final day of this fantastic sale!!

Have a wonderful weekend! -Sarah
