Royal Monday Blog Hop

Hello, and welcome to the Royal Monday Blog Hop! This week, we are featuring the spotlighting technique. In this technique, you color in only a small portion of a stamp, to highlight it. The results are very dramatic, as you can see here:

Here's how to do it:
1- Stamp 2 copies of the stamp you will be using.
2- On 1 copy, color in the portion that you want highlighted. I colored mine in with Copic Markers and Stickles.
3- Use a punch to cut out the piece you colored. Since I wanted the portion to be oval, I used my Creative Memories Oval cutter.
4-Use an ink blender tool to ink the edges of the piece you cut out.
5-Line up your cut out piece with the stamp on your other stamped image. Secure it to the image.

When I first saw this technique, I wasn't too sure how I would like it. But I like the way the card came out, and I may try it again. I thought this might be a good way to "hide" a flaw or two in a stamped image. I do think it makes an unusual card.

Thanks for stopping by! Now, hop on over to Alex's blog to see what she has done with this fun technique.

12/22 Happy Tuesday everyone

Here is a quick box that I made that would fit a gift card or a small gift. I used my Coluzzle to cut the hole in the box front and then glued a transparency piece behind the hole and then tucked my embossed image behind the transparency. It went together very easily.
Be sure to check back to see what Kelly has created for your viewing pleasure.

Sunday Scraps

Hey all!
Thank you for visiting at this time of the year, I think everyone is very busy with the Christmas decorations!

I made a card with Berry Fairy don't you think she is the cutest fairy ever seen. If you have ever seen a fairy for real hehe.

You might not see it very well, but her wings are sparkling.
This is a 4"x4" card, with flowers and buttons and a small piece of ribbon.

I hope you will have a great sunday!

Stampin Saturday Part 2

Oh my! I meant to be finished shopping and home so much earlier, but you know how life can be!!! I have a few more gifts on my list to buy and stocking stuffers as well. Of course, I have my eye on a couple of stamps that I need to order for me!!! LOL!!!

So, here's my project that I wanted to share today. This started off as one of my 12 days projects, but I can't count and it was actually #13. Yes, I know that 13 is somewhat unlucky, but not for us!!!

I used the Fancy Christmas set and some old Bo Bunny papers (I love this paper and wish I had more of it!!) I then added some stickles over the tree but they didn't show up very well. A bow finishes it off.

Stampin' Saturday

Things are gearing up at my house for our Christmas celebration. What's left to be done? Baking, cooking, wrapping presents, making a few pocket cards, using my new custom designed stamp from QKD......
This pocket card can easily hold a gift card, cash, or smaller gift items, such as a new QKD stamp!
For the design, I used QKD Rocker Bird in holiday red. On the tag, I embossed QKD Funky Swirl. And on the back of my card, I used my QKD custom designed signature stamp.
In my opinion, a hand crafted card or gift tag adds a special touch, so I hope you have time today to scrap a lot! Have a wonderful holiday celebration, and I'll be back here next Saturday! Helene

Updates and taking time to scrap

The holidays have been incredibly busy and bittersweet for us. My older brother's family left for the USA last Sunday and although I'm incredibly happy for their new life there, I already miss them so much.
It occured to me that I haven't sat down and made a diary entry or a scrap page or anything. And I just know I don't want to miss any of these crazy things going on in our life now. Thank goodness they're all good.

Here is a close-up of the fabulous images from the Going Postal Stamp Set.

Here's wishing that you and your loved ones are enjoying the warmth and magic of the season.

*hugs*
Nina

Birthday card

Here's a beautiful birthday card you can easily create for anyone on your list. I used my Cricut with the Kitchen cartridge along with my new released Belated Birthday stamp set. Make up a few of these and have them around for when you need them. I even added a little bit of shimmerz to the cake icing.

Supplies:
Die cuts: Cricut Machine
Cartridge: From My Kitchen
Stamp: Queen Kat
Ink: Memories
Shimmer: Shimmerz
Cardstock: Bazzill
Pattern paper: Imaginisce

It's a Royal Wednesday blog hop

Today's challenge was to use shades of blue, white and gray (silver). Definitely the colors of winter.

I used my Cuttlebug Snowflakes folder and embossed a piece of tin foil. I then sewed this to my cardstock and then added Shimmerz Angel Wings across the entire embossed image. I then mounted it to my card base and used Queen Kat's Seasons Greeting stamp to finish my card. Fairly simple, but the Shimmerz adds some nice sparkle.

QKD Tag - Part 2!

So yesterday I was kind of a tease on my blog for the Royal Monday blog hop :) I showed this tag:
which I made for an inspiration challenge a few weeks ago, and also fit this weeks color challenge of using silvers & blues. Well, you don't think I'm gonna get off that easy do ya? Of course, there is more to it. For this weeks color challenge, I combined this tag with my favorite thing to do- homemade wrapping paper!

I mean, what good is all your crafty goodness if you don't use it for the biggest wrapping day of the year!? I LOVE making homemade giftwrap, boxes, any kind of packaging. For this paper, I used pigment inks in 2 different silvers and a baby blue. I used the Fancy Christmas set again to match the tag. After drying and wrapping, I tied some polka dot white ribbon around the gift, attaching my tag. I love the look of kraft paper, so I just buy rolls of postal wrapping paper at the dollar store well before Christmas and decorate it as I wrap.

Now, don't forget to scroll down to see Anita's beautiful card from this morning using the Fancy Christmas set as well!

Hugs- Kelly

P.S. This beautiful stamp set is on sale in the store right now for under $6!!!

12/15/09 Embossed Tree

The Christmas card I used the Fancy Christmas stamp set. This is one of my most favorite QKD sets. It is just so elegant. I embossed the tree with copper embossing powder which really made the design pop. The detail on this tree just comes out so lovely whether you are embossing, coloring or just stamping.
Take a few minutes when you have some time this afternoon to come back and see what Kelly has created for you to see.
Hugs,
Anita

12 Days of Christmas Day # 12

Then there is the 12th and last of Christmas Tags.

It was very inspirational, all of my fellow DT members made gorgeous tags! Now I am very pleased to show you what I made.

I used the Northern Exposure stamp set by Jonathan Pitcher, first I started to stamp the little snowwoman on the tag, made a mask with another one, after this I sponged the tag with blue and purple and sprayed over it with a blue sparkly mist.
I used a star shaped piece of chipboard, and painted this in colors combining the tag, over this star I sprayed more sparkly mist. I painted the snowwoman and glued the star on the tag.
To finish the tag, I stamped the Northern Exposure sentiment on the left side of the tag.

I hope you enjoyed all the tags we've created and showed you!!

12 Days of QKD Christmas--Day 11

I'm a vintage kinda gal. Today I'd like to show off the Queen Kat Designs stamps that are perfect for my vintage projects.
If you are following Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of Christmas, then you know this tag follows the general concept of his tutorial for Day 12 (which was yesterday on his blog). You will have to go to his blog for the detailed directions, but I can explain how I made my tag. First I have to tell you that I nearly fainted when I saw Tim's Day 12 tag because I knew it was a perfect fit for Queen Kat Designs stamps!!!!! I used the QKD Funky Swirl stamp and the QKD Aged Text Background stamp.
I started with a white tag 2-1/8" by 4-1/4", smaller than the typical TR tags. I wanted to incorporate this adorable image of a young boy (FreeVintageImages.com) and a Maya Road flower so I used Ranger Distress Ink in Broken China. I also used Ranger Tea Dye Distress Ink and Memento Lady Bug (red) and Tuxedo Black dye inks. My music strip was beige (Flair Designs, Inc.: Jingle Bells). I cut two brown felt leaves from de Vines by Prima. Brown ribbon, Hero Arts teal Gemstones, and a Santa circle from Graphic 45 Christmas Past tags 12x12 sheet complete the supplies.
I love how the young boy is standing on top of one of the flourishes and how the Santa circle tag (on a pop dot) fits perfectly inside one of the swirls. I told you this QKD Funky Swirl stamp is perfect for this project!
There are some great sales going on in the QKD store. This is a perfect time to pick up some stocking stuffers for your stamper friends--or for yourself!
Tomorrow is the QKD Monday blog hop, so I'll be seeing you on my blog for another QKD Christmas project. 'Til then, I hope you have time to scrap a lot! Helene

12 Tags of Christmas - Day 10

Haven't you just loved all the creations so far! We have such a creative team here at QKD, and their creations are so inspiring! I decided to go with a simple tag for my 12 Days of Christmas tag -- I first took my daughter's white poster paint and dabbed it on my tag (paint daubers would work well for this step, but my white dauber is not working! grr!!) After letting the paint dry, I took out my metallic rub-ons; I used some green and gently rubbed over the textured part of the paint to just catch the peaks of the paint.

Then I stamped the Christmas tree from the Fancy Christmas Stamp Set on another piece of cardstock. Cut it out and then added some dimension by using pop dots when I put it on the tag. I finished off by adding the To From sentiment.

Just a couple more days of the QKD 12 Days of Christmas; make sure you stop by and see the final projects.

Day 9: Christmas Cat Sitting at the Window

Welcome to Day 9 of the 12 Days of Christmas here at the QKD Blog. Nina here and I'm going to share with you a card I made which I'm particularly proud of.

It's my last month in QKD and it's been such a privilege getting to know the wonderful ladies behind QKD as well as the most awesome team I've ever met. So, for everyone here at QKD, here's my Christmas card for all you lovely ladies.

I'm not much of a cardmaker but I'm proud to say that this is my most favorite card I've ever made. It was originally based on an image of a cat sitting at a window for our Royal Kat Wednesdays but I'm using it here instead.

For the windows, I cut four rectangles on the opening gates of my card. Then I stamped the wonderful cat from the Ride With Me Stamp Set on one of the transparencies before sandwiching it between the cardstock and patterned paper.

On the inside, I wanted to do some sort of scene so I grabbed last year's Christmas patterned paper (why do I always manage to buy too much?) and stamped the bicycle and tree again from the Ride With Me Stamp Set.

Then I just used a rub-on to put in my sentiment: Believe.

I just wanted to leave you with the message that no matter how tough this year has been (it has been particularly rough on my family), know that things do get better and there's always room for Christmas in our hearts.

Sending you lots of love and blessings for the holidays and beyond.

Kindly keep on coming back for more fabulous inspiration from the team. And God bless you always!

*hugs*

Nina

Christmas Tag # 8

On the 8th day of Christmas, with Queen Kat Stamps, this tag I made for you. I used my Cricut machine and Ride with Me Stamps. What an amazing stamp set this is. I stamped the packages several times and the Christmas Tree, then cut them out and placed them behind the sled on pop dots. "Ride with Me" was cut into a square and then attached with a paper tagger. Hope you like it.

Supplies;
Stamps: Queen Kat
Ink: Memories
Die cuts: Cricut
Cardstock: Bazzill
Pattern paper: Basic Grey
Ribbon: Stash

Check out tomorrow for another awesome creation.

It's sketch day

Don't you love working with sketches? They can really work to your advantage when you are feeling a bit stressed or challenged. So, this week's sketch:

My take:

This is from the BUSY stamp set and I just love it. This would be a great stamp to use for a coworker or just for someone so busy they don't have time for you right now. Add a cute saying inside and have them laughing in no time.

Supplies:
Cardstock: Bazzill
Embossing folder: Cuttlebug
Stamps: Queen Kat
Ink: Memories
Dies: Spellbinders, Nestabilities

Christmas, Chirstmas time is near...

Hi all!! Welcome back to the 12 days of Christmas! I hope you've been stopping in every day to see what the talented team has created just for you. I'm day 7, and a mighty fine day it is.

I decided to use the Fancy Christmas stamp (which I LOVE!!) I stared by covering a tag with some brand new paper I picked up at Archivers this afternoon.

I then stamped the to and from as well as the tree directly onto the designer paper. As a finishing touch, I stuck on a glittery snowflake (again from this evening's trip) and added a little ribbon! This seriously came together in 5 minutes. See how easy it can be to make personalized tags??
Well, I hope you enjoy and be sure to stop back tomorrow for day 8!!
OOOooo... Don't forget the blog hop while you're at it. I know the hop order is posted!!!
Enjoy!

12 Days of Christmas Day 6 - 'Christmas in Oz'

I know that the QKD DT are having lots of fun creating their 12 days of Christmas tags or cards to share with you.  I  had a great time creating my card to share with you today.  As I have been working on making lots of christmas cards recently, I wondered what I could do to stretch my imagination a little more!  I decided to take some non-christmasy image stamps and try to create christmas cards using them.  So, for my first one I decided to use the Friends of Oz stamp which was one of the newly released stamps in the QKD store in November.  I hand drew a tiny santa hat for each of the girls, colouring them with ProMarkers and adding Glossy Accents dusted with Glamour Dust on the bobbles and cuffs.  I then 'dressed' the girls in festive colours using ProMarkers, popped their santa hats on and they are all set up for the Festive Season!  Did I pull this personal challenge off?  Let me know what you think, I love reading your comments.  Thank you for stopping by today to view my creation, don't forget to come back tomorrow and the rest of the 12 days to see what other members of the QKD DT have created to share with you, here's a list of what's to come to help you remember to stop by.

12/7 Welcome to our 12 days of Christmas, Day 5

Here is my tag made with the new fabulous set called Northern Exposure. I had fun coloring them and glittering them up. I used liquid applique for the snow and sprayed the whole thing with Glimmer Mist. I have been playing with that more often and love the look it creates. Hope your holiday planning is coming along.

Christmas Tags Day 4!!!

Hello everyone and welcome to day 4 of our 12 days of Christmas tags & cards! If you missed any of the first three days, just scroll down to see the great tags featured already. I've been making tags like crazy getting ready to wrap up all the presents I worked so hard to find for Christmas! Braving the cold, standing in crazy lines at midnight! Today I'm going to show a tag using my favorite and much used set Fancy Christmas. I cut the tag using my Cricut and embossed the tree and sentiment with white embossing powder. (I also embossed the "to & from" on the back). I than tied a bow through the top hole of tag and sewed on a button with twine and tied in a bow.

We'll be featuring Christmas tags & cards everyday through the 15th, so make sure to check back everyday for some great holiday inspiration!

New Release Mrs.Dashwood Gift Set

Hello everyone! Happy December 1st! I can't believe the year is almost at an end. The last new releases of the year will be available tomarrow! Yesterday for the first peek at the new releases, I shared the first part of a gift-set I made as a Christmas gift. You can see that HERE. Today I'm sharing my 2nd piece to the giftset, a cute little matching fridge magnet. I used one of the new releases for tomarrow (Mrs. Dashwood) in each piece of my set.

For the magnet, I stamped & colored the image with copics, than punched the portion I wanted on my magnet. I than mounted that on a piece of patterned paper cut with a scalloped circle punch and added a magnet to the back.

Instead of attaching a magnet, you could also run the finished project through a Xyron with the magnet/laminate cartridge, than simply cut out with scissors or a punch,

Make sure to check out Anita's gorgeous card for today down below! And make sure to stop back tomarrow for the 2nd new release blog hop & the addition of the new releases to the QKD store!

Hugs- Kelly

12/1 Happy Tuesday and Happy December everyone

I participated in a QKD challenge and it was to create a card using an inchie. My inchie is at the center of my stamped leaf image. I just adore this Harvest Time stamp set. Be sure to check it out in the store. I couldn't find my glossy card stock to make the background paper so I used a sheet of photo paper and my trusty brayer and Kaleidacolor autmun leaves stamp pad.
Be sure to check back and see what Kelly has in store for us.
Hugs,
Anita

Scraps on Sunday

Hi peeps!

How is your weekend coming along? The days off are just too few don't you think.
I made this card to show you the wonderful set Christmas Greetings, I love to emboss sentiments, mostly it makes them pop.

I like this sentiment very much, it kind of speaks to me, anyway, there are a lot of people going to receive a card with this sentiment from me this year.

There are 6 stamps in this set! And it is even on sale now!

Stampin' Saturday Part II

Wow Helene's card makes me want to go and buy the Russian Dolls stamp set! Love it Helene!!!

Okay, now to my tag -- that is right, I did a tag for today. I love Melia's dragons and when I saw the Christmas Tree Dragon Stamp, I had to have it!

I colored him with purple and teal to make him a little more whimsical and then add purple and pink to his Christmas tree! He is all ready for Christmas! Wish I was!!!

Hope you have a great Saturday!!!

Penny

Stampin' Saturday

Hi QKD Bloggers! Not much left of the turkey feast here in the USA. That means it's time to really start gearing up for the next holidays. Since I celebrate Christmas, I'm busy making cards, gift tags, and other craft items. Here's a card I made for my cousin. I'm partial to the QKD Russian Dolls stamp because I have two sets of the real wooden dolls made in Poland. When I work with this stamp, I just feel connected to my heritage. I paired the stamp with a sentiment from the QKD Christmas Greetings stamp set. I used both sides of 2 patterned papers from the Graphic 45 Renaissance Faire collection. The Russian Dolls stamp, Copic markers I own, and patterned paper colors went perfectly together. Don't forget to check out the QKD store. There are so many great kits and stamps there along with some fantastic sales. Penny used the Christmas Dragon stamp for her holiday tag. QKD has so many choices! Hope you have time today to settle in and scrap a lot! Helene

Priority Travel

I saved a luggage tag from hubby's luggage and fully intended on using it on a layout. I wanted to document how it feels to be the wife of someone who works in the airline industry.

Journaling:
At first I was going to write about how being married to someone who works in the airline industry is far from a "Priority" travel experience or lifestyle. Sure we get to travel in business class. But it's a panicking feeling I feel knowing that we are always the last priority to board. Still it feels a little ungrateful to complain about that.
And then there's the people who make remarks, snide, envious or otherwise, how "easy" our life is because we travel. Come back to me when you're a stay-at-home mom and homeschooler who has to endure weeks without a husband.
But the truth is, I didn't even expect to still be traveling at all. When we married, AR wasn't in Philippines Airlines yet. And I had resigned myself to think my travel days were over.
So what is so wonderful about travel? Truthfully? It's that for the duration of it, no matter how long or short it is, you have that feeling that you've taken a temporary break from the ordinary and everyday routine. And that makes any complaints or snide comments more than worth it.
* I used Queen Kat Designs Going Postal Stamp Set for this.

Happy Birthday!!! oh, and Thanksgiving too..

Hi all!!! Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me... la la la la la la.... Happy Birthday to me. oh, wait, I think it's Thanksgiving today too. I hope everyone is enjoying the day with the people they care about the most.

For today's post I wanted to show you a fun little pumpkin I made for a Thanksgiving challenge. I took a piece of orange paper and stamped it with the fancy swirl stamp. Then I cut them into one inch strips. Punch a hole at the top and bottom of each strip and attach them together with a brad. Fan out the strips and they make a ball.

Then I curled some green paper and attached it to the top. Isn't it adorable?? Cute pumpkin that won't be made into a pie!

I hope you enjoy!!
Happy Thanksgiving!!
Lara
