Another Medallion Card

I don't know about where you live, but here in Chicago, medallions are big -- very popular this year.  People are buying them in stained glass, as ornaments for Christmas trees...So I thought I would hop on the trend wagon and make a few medallion cards and give them to my Chicago friends while they're hot!

I made today's card for a friend whose birthday is on New Year's Eve.  I used a Queen Kat Designs stamp from the Chakra Collection by artist Crystal Moore.  It's called "Root".

I used a monochromatic color scheme, with bits of lace and a bow to embellish.  The sentiment is from another stamp company.  I like how, even though it will be given out after Christmas, my medallion almost looks like an ornament hanging in its frame.

Check out all of Crystal's medallions, as well as all the gorgeous stamps that QKD has to offer at the Shoppe.

Thinking of Birthdays

I am done, finished, estoy terminado, with making Christmas cards!  Enough is enough, and I've made enough.  So for a lovely change of pace, I created a birthday card.  Not that I can't escape Christmas creations just yet.  This one is the last one to complete my Gram's Christmas present of a year's worth of birthday cards for each family member.  This one is for her son, my uncle, who's four years older than I.  I made this last week.
I colored a Queen Kat Designs stamped image called Cranium Man from Studio 77. onto patterned paper, and then framed it in coordinating colors of cardstock.  The patterned paper on the card base is a wonderful collection of gears, arrows and circles.  The sentiment is stamped with an acrylic stamp from my stash.

Not that my uncle is brainy or anything, but I do like to remind him he IS older than I am!! LOL  Hope you like the change of pace (and holiday) with my card.  Find all your Steampunk stamps at the SHOPPE.

Happy Holidays from Holly Fairy

Well, the presents are wrapped and under the tree. The food is in the fridge (or thawing out) and I'm starting on the pies.  The lights are on, the tree is up, the house smells like peppermint and holly and pumpkin pie.  Are you ready for Christmas?

I made this card earlier in the month so I could mail it off to a friend.  I used a Queen Kat Designs stamp from artist Catherine Swinford called Holly Fairy.  It's another simple card--white embossed image onto red cardstock, faux stitching, adhered to patterned paper base and embellished with a funky "Noel" and a glittery butterfly.

I love to push myself out of my comfort zone.  I normally stamp images with black ink on white and play with my Copics or Spectrum Noir markers to bring the image to life with color.  I also normally toss on everything but the kitchen sink (sometimes more is just more).  But I rarely make a CAS card, and I almost never use an image without coloring it.  I experimented, and I like what I've done!

I hope you do too!

We at Queen Kat Designs wish everyone a Merry Christmas, as well as whatever other holiday you may celebrate at this time of year.

It's Friday Yeahhhhhhhhhhhh

And you all know what that means it's time for me to showcase a designer from the WIS 2.0..

This week i chose Miranda to show you. I just love her style and her color choices everything about her projects is awesome.
She worked with Myka Jelina's image Emily and how she transformed her into this piece is amazing. I'm not a person who likes purple but the blues and purples Miranda chose work so well together.

Did i lie isn't she gorgeous... Well done Miranda she is stunning. If you want to see more of Miranda's work or any of the other sorority sisters pleas stop by the Whimsical Ink Sorority 2.0 and take the pledge with us.
I would like to wish you all a safe and Merry Christmas and Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Christmas Favor-ites

Five days left until Christmas Day and I am (almost) finished making all the favors for my dinner guests!  It's really helped me to have a wonderful collection of stamps from Queen Kat Designs.  This one is from artist Terra Bidlespacher and it's called "Brain Storming".

I colored my stamped image with Copics and cut her out.  I framed her with a white diecut snowflakes and then adhered her onto the front of a small notepad I picked up on clearance for,,,wait for it...49 cents!!  I also inked the edges with white and added a single white rose.
This notepad will be added to my growing pile of dinner favors for my guests.  I'm thinking of giving them out to my guests, all wrapped up, then playing the Lefty-Righty Game.  I wrote special lines to the holiday favorite "'twas the Night Before Christmas".  The idea of the game is for all guests to pass their favors to the left when the word LEFT is read, and to pass to the right when the word RIGHT is read.  At the end of the poem, the guests open their favors to keep.  I have several ornaments, notepads, and small gifties.  I need to count them up--I'll need 18 this year!!
Lucky I have so many pretty stamps from QKD from which to choose to decorate my items!  You can too, and will want to, once you check out all the lovely images from the QKD artists HERE.

Christmas is Coming, the Cards are Getting Done...

Today I have another Christmas card for you, using Crystal Moore's "Root" Chakra Medallion.  I used some great patterned paper from the Paper Studio to make a set of four "panes".  I circular-cut out the center and used wreath branch punches to form a frame around the image (which was stamped and embossed before coloring with Copics).

The only embellishment I added were four red heart-shaped buttons in the corners  I hope you like this card.  If you like "Root" Chakra Medallion, check out the image and all the new Queen Kat Designs December releases at the QKD Shoppe!!

Dreaming of a Green Christmas

These might sound like strange words, but not when you consider from whom they are coming.  Today I wanted to showcase a Queen Kat Designs artist from the Castle Playground, Sandra Caldwell.  I am the Royal Nanny (meaning I coordinate our DT members on the Playground blog) and wanted you to know the very talented artists showcased there.
I used Sandra's stamp "Frog Queen" (hence, the wish for a green Christmas).  The patterned papers are Basic Grey and the holly border is K&Co.  I framed the image using the Scallop Ovals die from Nestabilities and my Epic Six, and the snowflakes are punchies from a Fiskars punch (on which I placed green Skittles).

You can check out cards created by DT members Holley, Jamie, Teresa and Beth, using stamped images from artists Sandra Caldwell, Kristie Silva, Che Gilson, Corriander Shea, Jaz Higgins and Melia Newman on the Castle Playground Blog, a Queen Kat Designs blog.  And as always, keep crafting!

The Solace Swan and Pixie

This card reminds me of a Monet painting that one would see hanging in a gallery. I used the Foral background Queen Kat stamp that I embossed in gold.
Used a frame with a vine and another vine with flowers surrounding the picture. Added a water lilly leaf for bling and there you have my Monet! The stamp artist is Joanna Bromley. You can find her and many of her other designs in the Queen Kat Design store. See you all very soon. Happy holiday shopping! sueH.

Catherine Swinford's Holly Fairy

I had so much fun with this new Queen Kat Designs December release stamp!!!  The stamp is called Holly Fairy and is by artist Catherine Swinford.  The first card I'm showing you is a simple corner fold card.  I stamped and then embossed in red on some CTMH double-sided Christmas patterned paper.  I left the coloring to a minimum to let some of the pattern show through.

When I folded the corner, I knew I wanted to layer it with red cardstock to frame the scene.  I put a bling snowflake where I would normally have put a big blossom, and added a few sprinkles of jewels.  Then I pulled the whole scene together with some faux stitching around the edges.
My sentiment is a metal tag from Tim Holtz Idealogy Word Bands, reading: "Possibility begins with Imagination".  Very simple, very pretty, very easy!!  And it will go in the mail at regular postage rates!  That's a win-win card!
QKD is releasing some gorgeous fun stamps this month--go check them out at the Shoppe!

It's beginning to look alot like Christmas

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Ev'rywhere you go;
Take a look in the five and ten glistening once again
With candy canes and silver lanes aglow.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Toys in ev'ry store
But the prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be
On your own front door.

A pair of hopalong boots and a pistol that shoots
Is the wish of Barney and Ben;
Dolls that will talk and will go for a walk
Is the hope of Janice and Jen;
And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Ev'rywhere you go;
There's a tree in the Grand Hotel, one in the park as well,
The sturdy kind that doesn't mind the snow.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas;
Soon the bells will start,
And the thing that will make them ring is the carol that you sing
Right within your heart.

Sorry I could not resist have to get into the mood and what better way to do that than to sing a carol.. Anyway Happy Friday everyone I hope your weekend will be filled with rest and relaxation and lots of crafting.

Today I am going to show you Swing In The Stars by Maigan Lynn. I Made this card for a lady at work who wanted 5 Christmas cards this was one of the 5 and I love the way it came.

I colored her in Christmas colors to give that kind of vibe I also used Nutcracker Sweet papers by Graphic 45 and this card just turned out fabulous..

So what do you all think? If you want to see more of any of the designers of the Whimsical Ink Sorority 2.0  head over to the blog and take the pledge with us.

Have a great Day

Toadstool Fairy (gatefold card)

Hello everyone! I created a gatefold card for this design and used holiday colors. The black Dsp is from Storyteller Designs and has roses on it, very pretty. The design was awesome to do! Hopefully, you can see the wings that were done with a gloss and irredescent glitter.
There are little fairies fluttering around that I represented with the stars. The stamp artist for this design is Joanna Bromley. Enjoy. sueH.

Root - a Chakra Medallion by Crystal Moore

I love the beginning of the month.  It means that Queen Kat Designs has a new batch of stamps to release from its artists!  I made this gate-fold card using a December release stamp from the lovely and talented Crystal Moore, whose line of Chakra Medallions has captured the hearts of many a crafter.

Today's featured stamp is called "Root", and I wanted to make a special card to showcase her image, so I punched out a "frame" of sorts with a scallop circle punch, centered on the edges of each "gate" of my card.
I stamped "Root" with ink that coordinated with this winter patterned paper I had leftover in my Christmas craft box.

It all came together with some dark teal-colored card stock and a sentiment that comes from another QKD stamp set called Winter Deer.  A vintage button and a paper rose finish off my newest Christmas card.

For more of Crystal's fabulous stamps, check out the Shoppe.

Reindeer Party

Hello, crafters, it's Pat, the Royal Nanny at the Castle Playground!  I'm here with a card created by our DT member, Jamie.  She used a QKD November release stamp called Reindeer Stamp by the lovely Kristie Silva.  Jamie likes to build dimension on her cards, so she stamped Reindeer four times, using pop dots to adhere the images in front.

These reindeer are cute, and we all know who that is on the left, with his "nose so bright"!  You can find more of Kristie's images at the Shoppe, as well as all the talented artists showcased at the Castle Playground, a Queen Kat Designs blog.

Good Morning all.  Can you believe this is the last Saturday of the month?  Unbelieveable.  I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Today's  project is a tag that I made using the Butterfly Surprise Box stamp from Joanna Bromley.  I love this little stamp.  It's so cute and versatile.

I made this tag by stamping the image 6 times on white card stock in different colors of Distress Inks.  I cut two of the main images in quarters and used them for the background.  I crinkled my tag and sprayed it with water to distress it.  I then used a direct to paper technique to add four different colors of DI inks.  I used my heat gun to dry it and then attached the images to it.  For the four little tags, I cut each one 1/8th smaller than the one before it.  I added a brad and attached them to the middle of the card in a fan.  I did ink all of the edges with DI Vintage Photo.  I added some multicolored trim to the top and added a sentiment.  There also is a little bling  in the corners.

I hope you enjoyed my project and have a good time perusing through the QKD  Store.  Thanks for stopping in and God bless you.

Favors From a Favorite

I host our family's Christmas dinner each year and I always come up with some kind of favor to give to each guest.  One of the ideas knocking around in my head is to give each guest a cupcake to take home (or eat if pumpkin pie, cheesecake and Christmas cookies aren't enough).  I found these cute squat Mason jars at a rummage sale and picked up a handful.
I thought that Crystal Moore's image, Solar Plexus, a Queen Kat Designs November release stamp, would be perfect to decorate my jar.  I decided to stamp the image onto a pastel green background, using VersaMark ink and red embossing powder.  The image really pops!
I attached it to the top and for this photo, placed candy inside the jar.  I might even go with the candy contents instead of the cupcake, because I have these wonderful bite-sized Mars chocolates left over from Halloween, and I thought "do I really need to add another baking project to my full day?" LOL
I added Christmas ribbon to the top screw-on lid, and just a single Christmas sticker, since I want all that candy to shine through to my guests.  Simple yet pretty, and I can do them up well before the actual celebration, since chocolate lasts for six months, and its in an airtight container.

QKD has released some beautiful stamps this month, and Christmas is coming!!  Get your wish list going for Santa (or hubby) to choose from now and check out the Shoppe!!

Hi ya'll.  I'm here with another card using the cute Ms. Claus stamp by Sandra Caldwell.  I just love her rendition of older people.  Some of them are very funny.

Today's card is of course a Christmas card.  I used two oval die cut DPs from DCWV for the background.  I cut a piece of red card stock for a base and ran it though my Cuttlebug with the Holiday Words embossing folder. I tied a piece of white satin ribbon round the card and tie a cute bow knot.  I used paper piecing to make the focal image.  I did this by stamping the image on the white card stock and then again on red.  I fussy cut out her hat and dress and glued them on to the white stamped image.  I used Spectrum Noir pens to color in the parts that needed coloring and added alittle bit of glitter pen to the bell and the holly.  And of course I had to add some bling to the corner.

Thanks again for stopping in and I hope you will hop on over to the Queen Kat Designs Store and check out all the wonderful stamps you will find there.

Hope you all have a great day!  God bless.

Oh I had A little Chicken.....

So I rubbed hot water all around her leg.
And the little chicken hollered and the little chicken begged,
And the gosh darn chicken laid a hard boiled egg!
Well, I had a little chicken,
And she wouldn't lay an egg,
So I rubbed hot chocolate all around her leg.
And the little chicken hollered and the little chicken begged,
And the gosh darn chicken laid an Easter egg!

Well, I had a little chicken,
And she wouldn't lay an egg,
So I rubbed some butter up and down her leg,
And the little chicken hollered and the little chicken begged,
And the gosh darn chicken laid a nice fried egg!
Well, I had a little chicken,
And she wouldn't lay an egg,
So I rubbed some vinegar up and down her leg,
And the little chicken hollered and the little chicken begged,
And the gosh darn chicken laid a pickled egg!

Mixed Media Meets Crystal Moore

Today I have a fun tag to show you.  Now that Halloween is over, my mind is churning with cards and tags and favors and projects for Christmas, so I wanted to use a new November-release QKD stamp from artist Crystal Moore called Solar Plexus.
I started with a wooden tag for the base and used distress inks in green and red.  Then I stamped Solar Plexus in black and filled in parts with red and green Spectrum Noir markers.
I chose a Tim Holtz' Ideology Word Band that reads: "Encourage your hopes, Not your fears" and wired it onto the tag.  I added a few Skittles, a vintage button and some greenery with a flower before I used Stickle on parts of the stamped image for a little shimmer.
I finished off my tag with a bit of lace on the bottom edge, and some fiber at the top.
I hope you check out more of Crystal's stamps at the SHOPPE.

Saturday, November 3, 2012

Hello folks.  Emily here with another project on this cold Saturda morning.  Today is Saturday which means a new project for Queen Kat Designs.  Today I am using a new stamp by Sandra Cadwell called Ms. Claus.  I think she's adorable.  Sandra has some of the most amazing stamps over in the Queen Kat Store.  If you haven't checked her out, you most definitely should.

I thought I would change things up a bit and make something besides a card with this cute stamp.

I started out making a circle card, but then changed my mind.  I made this into a Christmas ornament for our tree.  I used a cd to trace around for the card base and the DP. The three lacy die cuts came from friend of mine.  I stamped the image on GP #110 card stock, red card stock and green card stock.  I used the paper piecing technique for Ms. Claus.  I used a dark gray Spectrum Noir pen to color her in.  Everything else is paper pieced.  I cut her out and pop dotted her into the middle of the circle.  I used a light green glitter pen to color in the holly on the hat.  The glitter stars are die cut stars ran through my Xyron and dipped in silver glitter.  I added a red ginham bow and punched a hole at the top to hang.

All in all, I think she turned out very cute.  I can't wait to put this little cutie on my tree.

Thanks for stopping in here at Queen Kat's Blog.  Have a great day!

Happy Saturday friends.  It's pretty dreary here in NE PA.  We are in line for that nasty storm that's coming...Sandy is going to drown us.  3-8 inches of rain tomorrow and it's supposed to rain until Wednesday.  We're in for it.  They are expecting over 1 million people to be without power, so if you don't hear from me for a couple of days, I'm OK, just no power.

So, on to today's card.  I am using the cute Flying Panda for my card this week.  Sometimes we all have a friend whose pet is like a child to them.  And when that pet dies, it's heartbreaking for them.  I decided to make a Pet Sympathy card with this little Panda.  He's a flying angel panda and I thought he would make a good sympathy card for some one's pet.

To make this card, I used a marbled light blue card stock for the base.  I then cut a piece of blue heart DP as my background.  I used two pieces of chocolate card stock and a deep teal piece. These are cut to fit into a type of mosaic pattern.  I used the same marbled blue card stock for the mat for the focal image.  I used my Nestabilities Classic Scalloped Circle for that.  I stamped the panda with Memento Tuxedo Black and used two different Sakura Glitter pens to color him in..Dark Blue and Gold for the halo.  I don't think he needs any more coloring than that.  I cut him out with Nestabilities.  I used pop dots to attach the panda.  The flower is made from a light blue five petal flower and a brown five petal flower.  I used a large circle brad to keep them together and used Stickles to give it sparkle.  I hand wrote the sentiment in White Gel pen.

So there you have it.  A cute little pet sympathy card.  Join us next Saturday for another new set of images from Queen Kat Designs.  Have a wonderful day and God bless.

Stamp: Flying Panda by Phantom Rose
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black; Sakura Glitter Pens; White Gel Pen
CS: All by Colorbok
DP: my stash

Happy Friday..

Yippee it's the weekend and you know what tha means??? That's right it's time for my weekly shocase of a sorority sister.

Today i am showcasing Maria with her beautiful card featuring Nami & Kijira by Maigan Lynn. I love the way Maria took this piece she chose the dolphin look and boy does it work. I love everything about this card all the colors flow just so nicely together.

If you would like to see more of Maria's work or any of our other sorority sisters please stop by the Whimsical Ink Sorority 2.0 and take the pledge with us

Have an awesom weekend

and Hugs

Janie
