Adornit's Blog Hop

Welcome welcome! Today QKD is participating in the Adornit Blog hop. You may see some of our wonderful Royal Court members along the way!! Be sure to leave comments on their blogs as 1 lucky commenter will receive a prize!!!

If you've come for your daily QKD fix and have not seen all of the hop, please hop over to the Adornit web site.

We are so excited to have you today. I'm going to share a fun card made with the new Honolulu skyline stamp and the Paradise Found Stamp set. This card was soooo much fun. I got inky and made a total mess. I used this video to guide me through the process of making my background paper:

I used Worn lipstick and broken china distress inks for my colors. For the embossing on my black cardstock I used the Swiss Dots embossing folder for my cuttlebug.

I hope you've enjoyed my project and I hope you'll check out Tim Holtz' video. It's pretty awesome.

Remember we are having a huge sale at QKD!! Save up to 55% off!

Fruity Sorbet

This Thursday finds me looking forward to the weekend. What about you?

This fun little cocktail glass can be found in the Beach Essentials set, perfect for all the summer months. I paired it up with some of my favorite SEI papers, so tropical and colorful.

The image was colored with copics and then die cut using nestabilities. I added a touch of sparkle to the lime, unable to catch it on camera.

Have a very happy Thursday!

Dot From the Oven

I seriously love this oven stamp because I seriously love to bake and cook for my family and friends. I'm at my most happy when I'm creating food for people to enjoy. And now I can create adorable cards for people to enjoy while they are eating my food. Perfection.

This card is a simple layout. I colored the image using Prismacolor Pencils and odorless mineral spirits. I like how it turned out. I think it would be cool to have a turquoise oven like that.

Cardstock: Cool Caribbean, Riding Hood Red, Chocolate Chip, WW
Stamp Sets: Oven, Baking is Love
Ink: Close to Cocoa
Extras: Oval Scallop punch, Ticket Corner Punch, Ribbon, Dew Drops, Prismacolor pencils, OMS

Sundays are for Stampin' - July 26th

Well, happy Sunday to ya! And welcome to another edition of Sundays are for Stampin' - it's a nearly undisputed fact! And guess who was born 45 years ago today?? She was in Speed, and a friend of mine tells me that she's great in The Proposal, along with my boyfriend Ryan Reynolds. Hubby and I just finished watching Definitely, Maybe, and Ryan's character in that movie could qualify for receipt of this card:

A friend of mine asked me to make this card for his dad, a handyman who enjoys watching sports on TV. I went with those tidbits when choosing masculine, sporty paper, grommets that I sanded, and eyelets that I sanded to a dull finish. The "#1 Dad" stamp is from QKD's "Dad Words" stamp set available in the QKD store.

Paper: Bazzill & Bazzill Bling; Junkitz Athlete collection; Artsy Collage textured papers
Ink: Brilliance Charcoal Black
Accessories: Marvy corner rounder; We R Memory Keepers grommets; Making Memories ribbon; Junkitz Twillz ribbon; Spellbinders Ribbon Tags

Thanks for reading and have a very blessed Sunday!!

Simple Saturday!

I wanted a clean card but one with a little pizazz at the same time. So, I pulled out AnnaBelle, one of the fairies from the Whimsical Ink line at QKD. I stamped the image on matte photo paper and then used my Prang pencil colors to color in select areas of the stamp. And little ribbon and done! A simple card with some pop!!

If you haven't heard of Whimsical Ink, then make sure check out the blog and join the sorority. The 2nd hazing event is underway. These stamps are fab!!! You definitely need to add one or two or five or six! or all of them to your stash while they are on sale!!! That's right!!! Don't forget the great sale going on at QKD as well!

Stampin' Saturday

I was reorganizing my craft room while thinking about how I was going to use this cute QKD Princess Carriage Stamp when it hit me! I had just picked up my Tim Holtz's Idea-ology Timeworks mask to put it away when I noticed the clock time was set at a few minutes past midnight (fairytale time)! And there it was! My concept of Cinderella, one classy lady, dashing away from the ball. Add the perfect sentiment from the QKD Sayings Mini Stamp Set, and you've got a card fit for a queen! Supplies: K&Company Remake Earth (recycled) card in green, with some green Ranger distress ink on top to make the clock background, leaf vine ribbon and some silk blossoms (too perfect for a pumpkin coach!), oval Nestabilities, a bit of patterned paper from My Mind's Eye Laundry Line, watercolor pencils, spiced marmalade Ranger distress ink, foam dots and glue dots. (The patterned paper I placed my card on for this photo shoot matches so well, it looks like part of the card! Could it be another coincidence in the craft room?) See you next Saturday! Helene

Time To Celebrate?!

I can't tell you how many times I have needed a "manly" stamp to make a card from! Does that happen to you?! Well, I needed one for my DH to tell him how proud I am of him for doing good on a test recently so I found myself in that "dilemma"! Then, it dawned on me..... I can use my "Kiss Me Frog" stamp! Now my DH is my prince and he's much better looking then a frog but, if I knew that when I went I went to kiss that frog I'd kiss him twice! LOL!

So I used the "Kiss Me Frog" stamp for the image and I colored him with my Koh-I-Nor pencils and Gamsol, I used my Coluzzle to cut out the circles but those dots...how'd I do that?! Well, I used a plastic canvas circle!! Now how's that for an inexpensive crafting tool?! Easy to punch the circle and then cut or vice versus! Easy peasy!

Well, I hope you like my card but, before you rush off to get your frog stamp let me tell you the GOOD news....
SALES!!! YEAH!! The Queen has a huge sale going on right now!! Yep, that's right, I said that favorite 4 letter word.... SALE! Up to 55% off certain items AND, get this....my other favorite 4 letter word?! FREE!!! Yes, I said it, I said FREE!!! If you buy a certain amount you get a free grab bag of goodies! I love surprises so when I bought my first stamps from the Queen I got one of these too! It was packed FULL of good stuff! Now how can you resist a deal like that?! You can't so, now, whatcha waitin' for?!!

Have fun shopping......

Need some coffee??

Goodness knows I do and apparently so does Joe the Monster! I just love the slightly frantic look on his face. I think his right eye is staring at that coffee cup tied to the ribbon.

Joe the Monster is on sale 20% off until the 31st at the Queen Kat store. Don't you ant to take him home? I'm sure you have room for just one little monster. He just needs a place to sleep and a bit of coffee every morning.

Enjoy!

Paradise Sunset

Looks like a really fun place to be, right?!

Paradise Found is a stamp set that is staying on my table, I reach for it for super quick cards with lots of punch.

This time I stamped the trees with green dye ink and then airbrushed the background with Copics.

I tried to use rich colors reminiscent of the colors you would find in a traditional sunset. I simply placed a punched circle where I wanted the sun, perfect!

Have a happy Thursday!

It's a blue Christmas

Well, the color blue anyway! :) I just can't get enough of this new Christmas set! The tree is such a great classic image you can really have fun doing any kind of card with it. I decided to use this gorgeous light navy with kraft cardstock for a simple, classy Christmas card. Love it!

I wanted to stay with a kind of natural feel, so I left it as is, but it would be gorgeous to put tiny blue jewels on the tree as well.

Lazy Saturdays

Oh, how I wish I could have been lazy today, but I was up and going early this morning, but I did want to pop in and share a card with you!

I wanted a little bit funky background, so I took my versaink cube and just pressed it down on the paper and created my own background! Then I used the cutest stamp ever -- Girlfriends Stamp -- stamped it and colored it with my pencil colors, cut it out and then added it to my stamped background. The final touch was the sentiment from the Friends Forever stamp set. I love the vintage typewriter look to the font that is used!!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Penny

Take a Journey This Stampin' Saturday

For this Stampin' Saturday, I'm swiping ink pads and spritzing water. Here's a pic of the supplies so that you can see how the tag went from plain to painted. I started with a craft stock tag. I swiped across it (as if you're making a rainbow) Tim Holtz Distress Ink by Ranger in faded jeans, spiced marmalade, and brushed corduroy. Then I spritzed the entire tag with water until I liked how the ink blended. I used a paper towel to dab off the excess water. After the tag dried, I spritzed it again with gold Perfect Pearls mixed with water to make it shimmer. By making several at the same time, I have ready made backgrounds for future projects.

I'm using the QKD Paradise Found stamp set that was released this month. I stamped the palm trees across the bottom of the tag. I ripped out a calendar from an old appointment book, distressed it, stamped on it the take a journey sentiment, and stapled it to the tag. For a well-traveled look, distress the edges of the tag with scissors or a distress tool, then use some distress ink on a foam pad to soften the edges. A black foam airplane from American Crafts, a flower from a lei purchased at a dollar-type store layered with smaller flowers and a brad, and some ribbon complete the tag. I picture this tag on top of a bon voyage gift, as an element in a mini album, or as an embellishment on a scrapbook page layout. Have a great weekend. See you back here next Saturday. Helene

A Thursday post

Good morning! Did you enjoy yesterday's blog hop? The QKD ladies certainly had a TON of beautiful projects. I mentioned it yesterday but I had a heck of a time with the challenge and remade my card 3 times. Here is the 2nd time...

It actually grew on me over the last few days and I thought I would share it with everyone today. I just the May birds for this one, why don't you let me know what you think! Do you like it?
Enjoy!
Lara

Paradise Found

Doesn't that look like a place you want to be?

Paradise Found is a really great set, perfect to take your thoughts to a "happy place." The beach is definitely my "happy place" and I find myself visiting in my mind quite often lately! LOL

I was able to use a circle punch as a mask so that I could airbrush the sunset. Quite a nice effect without the hassle of sponges and ink. Although, I still somehow manage to get ink on my hands, but that's just fine with me.

Masking is not one of my favorite techniques, but with the right stamps, it can really be a stand out. It was just the thing I needed to convey what I think is paradise. Hope you'll try masking on your next card or project. Be sure to link it up in the comments so we can take a look.

Have a fun Thursday!

Cardstock: Naturals White

A Vintage beginning!

Welcome to Queen Kat Blog!

Hope you left some love for Anessa! LOVE her "sundays are for stampin"!!

I have been in a vintage mood, I have started a vintage chipboard album! It is starting slowly since the summer is in full effect here. I started with a luggage tag album from BasicGrey. I thought of what was something that spoke vintage to me and that was old books pages, yellow with age. So I used an old magazine and ripped 16 pages out and "aged" them. I used River rock, creamy caramel, more mustard and a bit of chocolate chip ink and a sponge and went at them!! :) I think they turned out really great, the mag pages are the base for all 16 sides of the pages. I have the cover done for now mostly. Knowing me I will add so much more before I feel it is completed!!
On the cover I have the aged magazine page, a ripped, aged piece of Wisteria dp from BasicGrey, three rhinestones, three buttons from Foof-a-la, A section of old lace curtains that I ripped and folded over and stuck to sticky strip and last but not least Aged Compass Stamp from no other than the Lovely Queen kat Designs!!!
I really love it so far, I hope to complete it before next sunday my post day but if not I will certainly show my progress as I go along!!
Stamps used: Aged Compass-Queen Kat Designs
Paper Used: magazine pages, Wisteria dp BasicGrey
Ink Used: River rock, creamy caramel, chocolate chip, more mustard SU
Accessories Used: lace, buttons-Foof-a-la, rhinestones SU, sponge, sticky strip

Enjoy your week!! Thank you SOOO much for visiting us here at the Queen Kat Designs blog! It means so much!!
Hugs and Till Later!

Sundays are for Stampin' - July 12th

Good day, everyone! And welcome to another edition of Sundays are for Stampin'! Today I have another project to show you from the "Dad Words" stamp set that was released on the first of this month. Although I haven't made each of my projects as something to give to my hubby, I did choose to design with this set because I am so in love with the man, my heart bursts a little just thinking about him. And I love how this SuperHero is pointing at the word Inspire:

This is a particularly fun card because, combined with some paper from the DCWV All About Boys stack, the "Man of the Year" sentiment conveyed precisely what I intended.

And then with the metal Inspire snap (as opposed to eyelet), this is one of my favorite creations.

Paper: DCWV All About Boys stack; Bazzill Bling; Paper Studio sky
Ink: StazOn Azure; Cat's Eye
Sketch: Beary Box card sketch challenge #28
Accessories: We R Memory Keepers metal snap; Nestabilities Labels Two; Fiskars circle template; Spellbinders Labels Trio; Gutermann thread; Singer sewing machine feather stitch; clear embossing powder; heat gun

Thanks for reading and have a very blessed Sunday!!

Happy Birthday!

Yesterday was my birthday, and I had a great day full of well wishes from friends and family. I love going through my birthday cards; there are those that made me laugh and those that made me cry. Of course, my favorite cards are those that are made by hand. I love opening up the envelope and seeing a handmade card, so today I thought I would share a birthday card that I made with everyone:

I used the Birthday Cake Stamp Set. I love this stamp! It could be for weddings also!!!! I stamped on my cardstock and then used my tweezers to add beads to it as my cake decorations. I stamped the sentiment on a jeweler's tag and tied it on with my ribbon.

So, make some birthday cards to have on hand for the next birthday on your calendar!

Saturday Stamping

Saturday is a good day for me to take time to try a new technique. Here is another card I made with the July release stamp set Paradise Found. This time after I stamped the palm trees, I heat embossed them using black embossing powder. Then I chalked in a sunset scene. I love the overall effect. The square mat behind my scene is made by cutting a square of aluminum foil, gluing it onto a piece of black paper, and running the whole thing through the Cuttlebug using the Spots and Dots embossing folder. Afterward, I used a cloth to dab onto the foil design a couple of different colors of alcohol ink followed by working in some blending solution. The finished look reminds me of my childhood when, after my dad came home from work, we'd go swimming at Silver Lake, and the late afternoon sun would make the water shimmer. I hope you try using aluminum foil to create some interesting patterns to complement your stamping. And if you need some new stamps to go with your patterns, don't forget the sale going on right here in the QKD store! I'll be back next Saturday to show you what happens when I experiment with water mist bottles.

Fabulous Friday!

I'm so glad it is Friday! This week has taken forever, it seems like, lol! Today I made a very simple card to show y'all :)

I used the set Geisha Girls #3. I stamped it in Memento London Fog Ink, to coordinate with the Gray background. I used my Nesties to cut out the circles she is on, and my Cuttlebug to add texture to the Blue background. I colored her using Copic Markers.

Don't forget that at the QKD store right now we're having a huge sale! 25% off ALL QKD stamps, and 50% off ALL clearance items! WOW! Now is definitely the time to get some stamps!

Have a really wonderful weekend everyone!

Happy Thursday!

Hi all! Happy Thursday! Did you know it's still Christmas in July? That's right, so how about another sample from the Fancy Christmas set? For this one I paired the Christmas tree with some rustic colors and designer paper.

I love the simplicity of the card and how the fancy tree pairs with the buttons and twine. Now, I couldn't leave out all of the sparkle. I glued tiny rhinestones to the tips of the branches and colored the pot, star and balls with gold sparkle pen. Alright, I have a new baby kitten dancing across the keyboard and playing with my hair. Time to tire him out before bed!

Enjoy!
Lara

Super Seals

Seals is an incredibly versatile set.

So striking in black, lovely with subdued colors.
I stamped with Brilliance ink, then punched them out and matted them before placing on my card. I thought the image was a pretty good match for part of the design of the paper. I'm always looking for fun stuff like that to connect back to what I am creating.
Have a super happy Thursday!

It's officially closer to this Christmas than last! I know, I know! Time to start having fun with great new holiday stamps & supplies. One of the new July releases is this Fancy Christmas Stamp Set. Very elegant and great for using in a single color or embossing. I choose to stamp the tree, sentiment and inside details all in red ink.

I kept the rest of the card in simple tiny polka dots to keep the image at the focus. Thanks for stopping by for a peak at winter! :)

Peacock Blue

Hello. Welcome to my first post on the Queen Kat's blog. I'm so excited. I decided today to show you a simple but striking technique to get multiple colors on a stamped image. Start by stamping your chosen image with Versamark ink. Next, using a cotton swab, apply your chosen colors of chalk and lightly go over the ink in the areas you want the chalk to stay. I started on the tips of the feathers and worked my way in. And I just have to share one last thing, the ribbon, taken off a caramel apple wrapper. I save everything.

Cardstock: Cool Caribbean, Taken with Teal, Bermuda Breeze, WW
Stamp: Peacock
Ink: Versamark
Extras: Primas, Stickles, Ribbon

Sundays are for Stampin' - July 5th

Hello there! Welcome to another edition of Sundays are for Stampin'! If you've made it this far, keep reading, it's worth it...just being silly (maybe the smoke from all the fireworks in the neighborhood has finally gotten to me).

I've had the best time creating with a new set of stamps that Queen Kat Designs released on July 1st called "Dad Words." Talk about versatile: my first card was made with the 'Man of The Hour' stamp in the set, and I shall give that to my daughter's male teacher who nurtured her ability to read beyond what we could ever have imagined; and for this card I used 'My Man,' perfect for that man in your life, whether he's a dad or not!! I would venture to say that, since my hubby loves for me to call him my man, this stamp will find itself used on, oh, approximately 88% of all cards that I make for him =)

This card is based on a sketch I saw on Tina's blog (she's a fellow QKD DT member!), and it sure worked for a masculine card! 'My Man' is stamped on GinaK cardstock, and while still in the Spellbinders Ribbon Tags trio die, I sponged Cat's Eye Azurite onto the paper. Love that effect!

Here's a details close-up:

Papers: DCWV Animal Crackers Stack, Bazzill Bling, GinaK Pure Luxury cardstock
Inks: Cat's Eye - various blues; Brilliance Charcoal
Ribbon: Hobby Lobby
Accessories: Gutermann thread, Singer sewing machine, We R Memory Keepers grommets, Paper Studio brads, clear embossing powder

Thanks for reading and have a very blessed Sunday!!

Rockin 4th!

Happy Fourth of July, everyone! This is my first post on the official QKD blog as a new Royal Stamp Maid.

Today I'm using a great July stamp release, Rocker Bird. For this special holiday weekend, I made her into a USA country rock bird. I dressed up her necklace with some red pearls. I usually square up my mats. So this time I hand cut the blue star mat for a festive country look.

You'll be seeing a lot more of Rocker Bird from me. I have so many ideas for her. To see more QKD cards designed by me, look in the gallery here and at my blog.

Have a fun and safe holiday weekend! And I'll meet you back here next Saturday to show you how I use aluminum foil on a card.

Fabulous Friday!

Good Morning Everyone! I hope you are having a fabulous start to what is probably a three day weekend for most of you! *Yay*

I made this card using the newly released Rocker Bird - isn't it adorable??? My dp is Memory Box, and I just love it. I stamped the bird in Brilliance Rocket Red Gold, so he has an awesome sheen to him. In the corner, I used Daisy D's rubons, and in the bottom corner I used some pink Dew Drops. I put a little Prima with a glittery silver brad on his tail. My sentiment is also from QKD, it's called the You're My...set. Since ALL the stamps in the store are 25% off, you can get them at a GREAT price!!!

While we are talking deals, everything in the clearance section is 50% off - wowza!

Have a fabulous weekend, and Happy 4th of July to those of you who celebrate it!!!

New Releases!!

Did you get a chance to check out the new releases?? If not, head over to the store and check out the deals! All the new stuff is on sale 25% off for a few more days.

I used the new Fancy Christmas set for my project. (Sorry I'm running a little late with my post, I actually thought today was Wednesday! oops!)

I picked up a few wooden stars for .20 apiece. I grabbed some Christmas paper from last year and decoupaged it to the star. After it dried I decided I wanted to distress the edges a little and grabbed a buffer. Lara's helpful hint of the day is to distress the paper BEFORE applying the layer decoupage to the top layer. MUCH easier to distress that way. After it dried I used the crop-a-dile to punch the hole at the top and threaded it with hemp twine and a button. I stamped the To and From from the Fancy Christmas set with Versamark and embossed with gold powder. I wanted a more rustic look so I sponged gold acrylic paint on the edges.

I think this would make an adorable gift tag. I wonder who's going to get it??!!

Enjoy!
Lara

Seals

I love bright colors with this set, it just really pops!

Such great designs, easy to create with. The images are small but large enough to be the focal point. So full of detail.
There are several sentiments as well as the three Seals themselves, you definitely NEED this set!
Hope your Thursday finds you creating and having fun. No work for me tomorrow so I am hoping to catch up on my stamping!

Life layout

When I'm in a scrapping slump, I turn to movies, songs, magazines or mall window displays as inspiration.

I was watching "Rent" the other day when the theme song inspired me to make this layout:

I used Queen Kat Designs Russian Dolls Stamp and QKD Friends Forever Stamp Set as the finishing touch. Do check out all the great stamps and finds over at the QKD Store.

Have a scrappy day!

*hugs*
