Let me introduce....

Beverly Lazicki.. She was Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. to first generation immigrant parents. When she was 6 weeks old, the family moved to Los Angeles where she grew up. Beverly was the 4th of 5 children. She was always into different arts and crafts as a child. Her talents blossomed into award winning art. Before she was married, she worked as a costume designer for the motion picture industry.

In 1935 she married Connell Cowan and had 2 children, Connell Jr. & Beverly Mavon, within the next seven years. During the late 1920's and early 30's Beverly drew in a blank, bound book. The books follows the changes in fashion and style throughout the time period. There are well over 100 drawings in the book. The drawings are done in India Ink and colored pencils. Sadly, Beverly passed away at the age of 93, she would be proud and honored to share her drawings with you. She was a kind and generous woman. We have been humbled to have these designs in our collection again. A huge thank you goes out to Beverly Douglas for her generous gift.

As some of you may remember.. Back on February 14, 2007 we released 20 of her gorgeous designs and took them off of the market in June of 2007 to keep them as exclusive. We are very proud to bring out these new ones. We have chosen 13 of her over 100 designs to make up the new Flapper Collection exclusive to Queen Kat Designs®. For a complete line up of stamps, please visit our store.

The picture above is Beverly Cowan and me... Queen Kat! :) She's my great grandmother!

Scrapbooking Saturday!

Today the focus at QKD is using stamps on a layout. I grabbed the cute little owl stamps -- Hooters Stamp Set and inked up one of them and stamped it onto some patterned paper.

After I cut out my stamped image, I popped it up and added it to my page.

Remember QKD stamps are not just for cards!!! Use them on your pages as well!

Birds of a feather....

are flocked and glittered together!

Looking for another fun way to use your stamps without having to color them in. Well here is and idea, grab your glue pads, a little flocking powder and some lose glitter! It's as easy as stamping your fav QKD stamp with the glue, sprinkling some flock or glitter over the image, and tapping off the excess back into the bottle! So easy yet so touchy feely fun!

Queen Kat Royal Wednesday

It's time for another Queen Kat Royal Wednesday! This week we are getting distressed. Distressing can be something so simple as tearing paper, anyone can do it. When I "distress" a project I'm usually tearing paper or roughing up the edges.

Here are some distressing sample from the design team:

Nikki:

Beverly:

I can't wait to see what you do with distressing. Come join the fun and post your creations in the Queen Kat Message board HERE.

Till later....

QKD March Get Inked! Kit

It's that time again for me to give you all a little sneak peek on the sample projects that I've worked on for QKD March's Get Inked! Kit. I hope most of you had subscribed to this kit as it has been sold out for the last two months and there are only 3 kits left now. Sorry for the delay on this sneak peek which should have taken place in February. There are some problems in getting the kit to me. We've had a lost package. Luckily it's all fine for this second package.

Below are the projects that I've worked on for this kit.

I'll also be doing more samples using this set of stamps. So, if you want to follow along and have this set of stamp to play with, grab your kit now before it's all gone. This set of stamps is not available anywhere else because it's specifically designed for this kit.
If you're a subscriber of this kit and have any questions about the projects, simply email me or drop by QKD's message board to post your questions. I'll answer them.
Have fun stamping!

Mini Notes ~ Fast & Fun!!

Good morning!! Hope everyone is adjusting well to the new time change! Took me all of Sunday to really catch up and feel normal, but I think I am finally on track now, and it feels good!! So, in light of feeling good... I decided to make these cute little note cards! All 4 went together in about 20 minutes and they were lots of fun to make!!! Try some out and let me know how your experience was with them!!!

I used the new Fairy background stamp that was just released! I love this stamp for its femininity and versatility all wrapped up in one!

Don't forget to visit the store and get your hands on on some of the newest and cutest stamps ever!

Springtime Geishas..

WOW! What a difference a week makes here in VA. This past weekend was sunny and 70, less than a week ago we had 10 inches of snow on the ground. The warmer days has brought out my pastel side.... a rare occasion to say the least. So.. here are my Geishas in their purple and green Springtime attire. I just can't get enough of the Geishas... I love how versatile they are. They come 2 in a set, so you can use them separately, together, or even just a portion of the image. I have to admit that I prefer them embossed. The black is so shiny and they are so fun to color.

Head on over to the store and pick up your Geishas now. There are three different sets to choose from. I hope you have a nice day my friends...

March Guest Designer.. Callie Zenner

We have a guest designer this month!! Please help me welcome Callie Zenner as an honorary member of the Royal Court for March! Here's a little bit about Ms. Callie...

"I'm Callie and I was born and raised in Small Town, Idaho. My husband and I have two children and we farm and raise cattle. We're very busy pretty much year round, but we love our life here and wouldn't change it for the world. My husband works his hiney off and because of that I am fortunate enough to stay at home with the kids, a 4 year old boy and a 3 year old girl. When they give me a free minute or two I love to sit and paper craft. I love to scrapbook, make cards and mini albums as well!! You'll find that I have an addiction to ribbon and polka dots. If there's anything else you wanna know, you'll have to ask!"
We will have a project from Callie each Sunday in March! Here's the first card she made for us..

Thanks for coming! Check back tomorrow to see what Beverly has in store for you! :) I bet it's something FUN!!

Flutterby the Butterfly!

One of my favorite stamps at QKD is Flutterby!

I stamped it twice once on the pink cardstock and once on the striped paper. Then I cut out the wings and created a paper piecing. This stamp is so versatile and it is under $5.00!!!

You Brighten My DAY!!!

And that is the TRUTH! So often we all just need a simple smile, a simple "Hello, how are you doing?" just to let us know that someone is thinking about us....

Today's times are getting harder and harder....jobs, stock market, just general life is hard....(boy do I sound like gloom and doom....sorry). SOOOOO what a better thing to do than to go get a book of stamps...and send some LOVE to just spread some smiles! Let someone know you are thinking about them, praying for them or just want to put a simple smile on their face!

Here is a simple little card that I'm going to send out to a dear friend....she is actually my mother-in-law's cousin....She is in her 80's and I KNOW she would soooo appreciate a little smile!

So...what do you say...I CHALLENGE YOU TODAY to make a card and JUST SEND IT for NOOOO reason, other to say you are thinking of them today! After you make the card, and just before you send it, stop and share it with us! Let us know who you sent it to and why! I know even that will bring smiles on our faces!!!!

Lovin' the Fairy Flowers!!!

When I first saw the Fairy Flowers I wasn't sure how I was going to use them. They intrigued me, sparked interest for a challenge, so When V asked me if I wanted to make samples for them I said sure! They sat on my desk mocking me waiting to be played with, but I was uncertain just how to use them... I was thinking too much! As soon as I inked them up, I was in love. There are so many possibilities with this set and my samples barely even get me started lol. These a a blast to play with, so pick up your set today. Psst they look great with the new fairy stamps too, hehehe!
